Comments and Faves-An Essay by ~In-The-Machine:iconIn-The-Machine:

I see a lot of people begging for comments. And when they don't get said comments, I see these same people turn into whiney little bitches.

Hey, now don't get me wrong! Comments and awesome! So are favorites. But when people start getting whiney about it, a line's gotta be drawn somewhere.

Here is an essay on my opinion of comments and faving.

First off, people don't always have something to say. Whether it's because the art looks so good to them that they don't know if it needs any critique or they just wanna avoid using the same "kawaii" or "cool" or simple gerneric one-word comments. Or they just can't think of anything to say. Or they just don't want to fill up the in-box with over-used compliments. Besides, it saves many a busy artist lots of time if they don't have to go through so many of the same "cool/kawaii" one-word messages.

I've also noticed many artists getting more demanding.

First, there was "leave a comment even if it's incredibly short or a one-word like 'cool' or sweet'".

Then there was "leave a comment longer than one-word, maybe at least a sentence."

Next, "leave a long comment. Not just one-worders or short sentences."

It only got more demanding.

I even saw certain artists with hundreds of watchers throw hissy-fits and bitch that their work was 'under-loved' even though they got a multitude of faves everyday just because  people didn't leave comments enough comments or make the comments long enough.

Spoiled much? Hell, why bother is people are going to be so picky about it? Why bother commenting these brats at all?
Plus, no one likes a beggar.

Instead they should be grateful that people are still faving their work even after they've acted like spoiled bitches.

I've seen less popular artists that don't bitch nearly as much.

Besides, a lot of people are time-limited. They have lives outside of DA and a lot of times they just like to browse, fave what they like, and get out.

Also, if you're not that great of an artist (you know who you are) and someone faves because they like at least one thing of something of your's, you should be grateful someone's even faving at all. Not bitch at them for not commenting.
What do you want them to comment on? How, except for that one favorable part of the pic, shitty it was?

It seems many folks have forgotten that faves are a positive thing.

Comments and faves are an equally wonderful thing. But sometimes, people just gotta take it a little easier with the want of comments.

Gaw, this probably needs some work on the structure so badly.

Anyway, this is just how I felt about a lot people and their need for attention/coments on here. Too much whining.

I'm sure this has flaws so feel free to leave a critique.

Totally agree, but you already know how I feel about it.
I agree fully with the "kawaii/cool-one-word" thing. It makes a lot of sense. Most artists like to receive useful critique and comments, even if they are negative-sounding. It's critique, for heaven's sake. That's what's being an artist is all about. *rolls eyes* People can be so stupid.

I felt like turning this into an essay because some days ago I just saw so many anti-fav-and-no-comment things. I even saw a flash about it!

Sadly, there are many artists on this site who don't like critique or view it as negative. There are even those who like to give it but do not like to recieve it in return. :(

Here here. I don't understand those hissy fits. It's not like DA is setting itself up to be a prime artist's community. It's the internet; anybody and their thirteen-year-old cousin can join.

The sad thing too is that some of the same DA artists who don't like one-word comments also don't like legitimate critique. So what they want is long, well-thought out comments of...unlimited praise? Silly. It's all silly.

It is indeed silly. That's why I wrote this :)

And thanks for the fave :)

See I see faves as even better then comments, as great as it is to have someone's thoughts or input or whatever, faves mean they liked it enough to take it to view again.

Plus, there's always the chance your work is going to get seen in someone else's favourites.

Sorry if that made no sense, I've been up all night and I think my brain's turned to crap ^^;

S'alright :)

That makes perfect sense. It's the most perfect sense I've read all night long.

I see a lot of people who'll write like ten paragraphs and just spit out mushy goo like "omg you're sooo talented and good and blablabla". Then you think, if you think so highly of that piece why don't you fave it?

And they never do.

Funny world. Silly people.

Heh, yeah exactly. I don't think I'll ever really understand some people. It's too tiring to even try.

Then don't.
Sit back, drick some coffee, and watch them drown in their own stupidity. :iconjerryplz:
