Im gon b honest, whenever people say "I THOUGHT THIS WAS A KIDS SHOW" for moments in young people television that aren't even that graphic or disturbing, I feel like mentally rolling my eyes. With certain instances, like the murder/suicide at the end of Legend of Korra or the overt references to cunnilingus in that one episode of Cow and Chicken, it's like, yeah, okay, makes sense people would be shocked or surprised.
But in a lot of cases it's like, dude, some people are a little old to be acting like 'older' or more 'borderline' humor being pocketed into shows for younger people are anything novel. Such as when people react to shit that's really generic and not even explicit, like:
"OH MY GOD A CHARACTER FELL TO THEIR IMPLIED DEATHS I THOUGHT THIS WAS A SHOW FOR KIDS"
"OH NO A GENERIC VILLAIN WANTS TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD WITH HIS GENERIC ARMY OF DARKNESS I THOUGHT THIS WAS A KIDS SHOW"
"UH OH A CHARACTER THAT APPEARS TO BE 'TRIPPING' ON A G-RATED DRUG THAT'S MOST LIKELY SOME SORT OF EXTREME SUGAR PRODUCT HOLY SHIT DRUGS ALERT I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR CHILDREN."
"A CHARACTER MENTIONS THAT THEY'RE PREGNANT WHAT THE SHIT HOLD THE FUCK ON WE'VE GOT LITTLE BABIES WATCHING WE CAN'T HAVE THAT BECAUSE KIDS SHOW"
And a lot of that commentary is coming from viewers older than the target demographic. Dude. Son. I don't think it's the kids shows that are "messed up," I think you're just really sensitive to kids television and overreact because you're not the "lolz hardc0r3 ninetiez kid" you thought you were (or, in some cases, even somewhat older than that).

edit: this wasn't really aimed at parents so much as it was talking about people in these fandoms in general, but I guess? parents work, too.

The Hobbit
I found An Unexpected Journey to be reasonably entertaining. There was action, magic, mystery, rolling landscapes and a good dose of adventure. It's also incredibly lengthy and clocks at nearly three full hours. However, wile I enjoyed a number of the film's aspects, I wouldn't rate it as highly as any of the LOTR films.
The film has a bit of darkness and foreshadowing in it, to be sure, but a part of what adds to the near three-hour runtime is the fact chunks of the film are loaded with seemingly pointless "fluff" and shenanigans that don't do anything to add to the foreshadowing in question or build onto anything more substantial or seriou

If it weren't for the fact that I'm still blown away by how hard Wreck-It Ralph hit it out of the park, I'd be a lot angrier at how one of the only animated films I was looking forward to in theaters this season ended up falling far flat of my expectations. I was looking forward to ROTG far longer than most films this year, and frankly, even if you didn't consider the hype, it was still fairly borderline mediocre.

Wreck-It Ralph
I'm not putting any major spoilers in here, but this is....easily the best film I've seen all year. Can't remember the last time I saw an animated film that made me feel happy and sad at the same time (in addition to making me laugh). The closest thing I have to a 'critique' for the film would be that I sort of thought Ralph would explore more than just two other games (Hero's Duty and Sugar Rush) in addition to his own, but otherwise it's really difficult for me to think of anything I didn't enjoy about this film.
