I think a lot of people assume that just being spontaneous and random automatically makes them automatically funny people, but a lot of the funniest people I've come into contact with were actually pretty intelligent people who knew how to analyze the world around them and derive humor from observations they made of various objects in their lives. Especially since imo, a lot of incredibly funny jokes or punchlines have the audience going, "oh my god, that's so true
" or have them relate on some level.
I think there are a lot of instances where "random" humor can be funny, or at least when a person or sequence pulls something that's so far out of left field that it overrides all sense of dumbfoundedness and slams your brain straight into the realms of hilarity,
but a lot of times (usually with younger people) they think just saying, "I LIKE CHEESECAKE" or "WAFFLES PIE CHEESE I AM SO RANDUMB LOLOLOLZ" makes them "special" or unique or funny when:
1) This largely Invader Zim-brand of random humor has already been done to death by numerous people and is therefore no longer "random."
2) Is so overused that it's more predictable than actually funny.
3) Makes you look like a tool.
4) Is more irritating than actually funny due to being so heavily overused
If you think spontaneously screaming, "I like pie" out of nowhere is genuinely humorous, you're probably
not that funny to begin with and probably lack the actual insight to be genuinely funny (although in this case you could be "funny" in the sense that people are moreso to be laughing -at- you rather than anything you've actually said or produced).
Then again, different people may have different ideas of what is or isn't funny, but a lot of "Zim-brand" humor seems more forced and smacks of "i will random say and/or shout out statements having to do with my affinities for various foodstuffs and randomly pull numerous off-topic words and sentences out of a hat and throw them out there because i really don't know how to be funny otherwise and maybe just maybe one of those will hit the mark because lord knows i don't actually have the thinking skills to be funny in the first place aha oh wow."
But that's me.
(note, I watched and liked Invader Zim. But I call it "Zim brand" humor because that's what it seems reminiscent of and it seems like those people are trying to emulate Zim-styled randomness).
