to happen in a series:
1) You get very high expectations for a character and anticipate nothing less than utter badassery and coolitude from said character only for the character to actually turn out to be shitty and lame to the point where you actually end up wanting them to get killed off as opposed to rooting for them. All your expectations of this character ever being the badass you thought they were and would be are irreparably dashed to the ground.

2) The character in question starts out as the coolest person in the series and one of your absolute favorites before gradually becoming lamer and lamer and more contradictory as the series progresses to the point where you end up just hating that same character more than anyone else in the series.

The worst feelings.

Edit: This isn't referring to a specific series, I just mean in general when it happens.

Katniss in Catching Fire. I thought she was okay until it came out, and there's also the issue of Axel and Roxas in Kingdom Hearts.

I was trying to think of a series of book which did this to me, problem is i usually bleach them out of my mind...

Artemis Fowl series of books did this. Started out really well. Loved the character of Artemis, then over the course of 5-6 books his character completely derailed to the point where he lost all his individuality that drew me in the first place.

The Torchwood series 'Miracle Day' apart from being shite also tended to build up characters really well, only to completely derail them in the next episode.

It is one of my main concerns whenever a company decides to do a spin-off series/movie/game focusing on a secondary character who happens to look completely badass.

Most of the time, the characters aren't so badass anymore. It's really sad, and it should teach us never to ask for more than we get with those things. ; n;

I worry about this all the time, because I have a feeling it's going to happen/may already be happening to a character I love. But I care about them far to much to let bad script writing taint how much joy they give me.
